Inverness Local Member Project Development Grant - NEW September 2024

What is a Member Project Development Grant?

This grant is for Inverness Local members who are looking to enrich their professional practice or student learning via an innovative project. This grant is to support the purchase of resources required to realize this goal when funds are not available by any other means (e.g. book bureau, instructional budget, or capital funding).

Conditions and Eligibility

1. Five (5) grants may be awarded in October 2024 and five (5) grants may be awarded in February 2025. All applications must be received by the posted dates and time. The 2024-2025 deadlines are October 30, 2024, and February 26, 2025, at 4:00 PM

2. Teachers may request up to a maximum of $450.00 to fund a project - in part or in whole.

3. Applicants must be members of the Inverness Local NSTU and possess a permanent, probationary or term contract.

4. Only one application per member per school year will be permitted.

5. Individual teacher must make applications (one name per application).

6. Members will not be permitted to carry forward funding approved in any one school to a subsequent school year.

7. Preference will be given to those who have not received a Member Project Development grant within the last two years.

8. Preference may be given to projects of a non-consumable nature i.e. Items that can be reused for future students.

9. Preference may be given to teachers within the first 5 years of their career or assignment.

10. Preference may be given to projects deemed to be innovative in nature.

11. The resources purchased for the project remain the personal property of the member who was awarded the grant.

12. Any changes to the proposal must be approved prior to the distribution of funds.

13. Applications must be received by the deadline and be filled out in their entirety to be considered.

14. This grant is a reimbursement. Teachers must send in itemized receipts to be eligible; all receipts are kept on file.

Receipts must be received within 6 weeks of grant approval, or the grant may be re-distributed to other applicants.

What is a Member Project Development Grant?
This grant is for Inverness Local members who are looking to enrich their professional practice or student learning via an innovative project. This grant is to support the purchase of resources required to realize this goal when funds are not available by any other means (e.g. book bureau, instructional budget, or capital funding).
Conditions and Eligibility
1. Applicant must be an Active Reserve Member of the NSTU registered with the Inverness Local.
2. Active Reserve members may apply once every two (2) fiscal years for up to a maximum of $300.00.
3. Applicants must have taught a minimum of fifteen (15) days in the Inverness Local in that fiscal year.
Proof of this must be included with application (letter from schools or SRCE with dates and names of schools worked). The fiscal year begins August 1st of and ends July31st.
4. Applications must be made a minimum of one (1) month in advance of the conference/event.
5. Deadlines are the last Friday of the month by 4:00 PM.
6. Pre-approval for funding is required.
7. The last day of the conference determines in which year the funding is granted.
8. If there are any significant changes to the original application regarding the date, location or focus of an approved conference, individuals must notify the Local Executive, in writing.
9. If you decide not to attend the pre-approved conference, and wish to attend an alternate one, you must re-apply to the Local Executive for pre-approval.
10. If an applicant does not attend the pre-approved conference, they must notify the Local Executive by e-mail no more than 30 days after the event has taken place.

The Inverness Local of the NSTU offers Grade 12 bursaries each year to dependents of Inverness Local Members. The following link will take you to the Google Form to complete the application. Further information is available on the first page of the form. Please note you must also attach a resume and letter of reference to the form when submitting.
